Singer Gloria Gaynor has praised the police officer who stunned drinkers in a gay bar by performing her hit song after dealing with a disturbance outside.

The officer delighted crowds with the anthem 'I Will Survive' in the packed pub.

The cop, known only as Sergeant John, and three colleagues had been called to Waterloo Bar in Glasgow to deal with an incident on Wednesday night.

After interviewing people and making an arrest, the officer was persuaded to perform on stage.

The video has since went viral and superstar Gloria was pleased with the results.

Taking to Twitter the singer said: "I love this!" and quoted a copy of the viral story for her 62,000 Twitter followers.

After the performance karaoke host Katie Boyle said on Facebook: "So I managed to get Sergeant John to sing in the Waterloo Bar today after a wee incident.

"It was an accomplishment that I got him up to do it. He was brilliant and just goes to show not all bad can be said about Police Scotland."

A woman who in the bar said: "The officer had came in a with a few of his colleagues and had spoken to the staff about an earlier incident.

"There was a game of Play Your Cards Right going on mixed in with karaoke and the pub was really busy.

"After he had done his duties the karaoke host got him up to perform. He said his name was John and chose 'I Will Survive' to sing.

"He tried to stop after one verse but the crowd were loving it so he carried on. He was really good and had all the moves."
