A ROAD was closed for several hours after a bus exploded and went on fire.

Police and fire attended the incident on Netherton Road on Monday night.

Nobody was injured but locals reported hearing the explosion.

A video posted on social media showed the severity of the fire.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Emergency services were called to a report of a bus on fire on Netherton Road, Wishaw around 8.15 pm on Monday, March 9. Nobody was injured.

"Officers assisted with traffic management and the road was re-opened at 4.30am on Tuesday, March 10."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman added: “We were alerted at 8.15 pm on Monday, March 9, to reports of a bus on fire on Netherton Road, Wishaw, North Lanarkshire.

“Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene alongside emergency service partners.

“Crews worked to extinguish the fire and left after making the area safe.”
