AFTER building up a cult following in Edinburgh, the team behind Ozen Street Food has brought its Eastern fusion flavours to Glasgow.

Established in 2021, Ozen has had foodies buzzing about its bao buns and was even nominated the UK's Best Bao Buns by the Bao Bun Society.

It has brought signature dishes such as the Karaage chicken bao bun and the McOzen mash-up, featuring a double beef patty, American cheese, pickles and special McOzen sauce, to the city but has also revealed new dishes such as the Katsu chicken bao bun and dessert buns bursting with crumbled Biscoff, Nutella or strawberry syrup.

Glasgow Times:

The brains behind the bao buns are the self-confessed food-obsessed Chris Thomas, Alex Galpin and Jacob Rodriguez, who have more than two decades of hospitality experience between them

Chris says they were inspired to start the business after "lots of travelling around the world".

The 26-year-old said: "We just wanted to do something different, there isn't really any other bao bun place that's national across the UK and that's what our goal is."

He continued: "Glasgow has some fantastic food offerings but we’re here to take things to the next level.

"We see ourselves as street food disruptors – shaking and spicing up the dining scene with our unexpected combos, fresh flavours and seriously good sauces.

"We’ve travelled the world for inspiration and we’re not afraid to experiment.

"That’s how we’ve grown such a loyal following of foodies in Edinburgh and we’re confident our moreish menu will win over Glasgow palates too."

The Glasgow Times was lucky enough to try some of Ozen's new menu as it launched in the city on April 4.

After searching through the new menu, I ordered the Katsu bao bun, eating crispy chicken, katsu mayo and pickled red onion, as well as the previously mentioned McOzen.

I also ordered a side of Cauliflower Love, Katsu mayo, McOzen sauce and Nutella dessert buns.

Ozen is known for its bao buns and after trying both of these I can say it's with good reason. Both were filled with flavour and if you enjoy a Big Mac, the McOzen is a must-try.

The Cauliflower Love was crispy cauliflower bites covered in a sticky sauce and topped with maple mayo - this was very tasty and a favourite in the office for everyone who tried it. I'm not normally a cauliflower fan but I would gladly order these again.

The dessert buns consisted of three fried bao bread pieces topped with lots of Nutella. The bread pieces weren't sweet so balanced out the Nutella nicely and were a welcome addition to the meal.

Ozen Street Food is now available in Glasgow via Deliveroo.

Opening hours are Monday to Sunday, 12pm to 10pm.
