A pensioner was taken to hospital after being hit by a lorry in Blantyre.

As the Glasgow Times reported yesterday, First Bus services were disrupted after an 84-year-old man was knocked down around 6pm on Glasgow Road.

999 crews attended and the road was reopened later.

Today, the force confirmed that the pedestrian was hospitalised and a 53-year-old driver was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and released as the investigation continues.

A Police Scotland Spokesperson said: “Around 6pm on Tuesday, 19 December 2023 police received a report of a crash involving a lorry and a pedestrian on Glasgow Road, Blantyre, between Elm Road and John Street.

"Emergency services attended and the 84-year-old male pedestrian was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

"The 53-year-old male driver was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and released pending further enquiries.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the crash.”
