Meetings focussing on the fate of two South Lanarkshire care homes will be held this month.

Two public events will take place to discuss the future of Dewar House in Hamilton and McClymont House in Lanark after cutbacks were discussed in September last year.

The meeting will be run by South Lanarkshire University Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) and is open to all members of the public.

Participants will be asked for their views and insights on the future delivery of care in the homes as well as having an opportunity to provide thoughts on sustainable and viable alternatives.

Officers from the South Lanarkshire University HSCP will attend to provide context and to support capturing the consultation responses.

Craig Cunningham, head of commissioning and performance for South Lanarkshire University HSCP, said: “These public meetings follow events in November and December and are a key part of a wider programme of consultation concerning the future of Dewar House and McClymont House.

"In addition to the public meetings, we have been engaging with all residents, families, and staff directly.

“Our consultation is being undertaken in full compliance with national guidance, with impartiality reinforced under the oversight of an independent advisory panel.

"We recognise that consultation processes on local services can be an anxious time and we are listening very carefully to all views. No decision has been taken on the future of the homes.

“We have a duty of care to all residents of these homes and will continue to review and meet their needs and prioritise their wellbeing throughout the consultation process and beyond it, regardless of the outcome.”

The first meeting will be held on January 23 at Lanark Memorial Hall from 6.30pm until 8pm with the second event taking place on January 29 in the Banqueting Hall at South Lanarkshire Council Headquarters at 6.30pm until 8pm.

Locals can submit their views electronically at slhscpconsultations@southlanarkshire.gov.uk until February 2.
