School kids have been learning about road safety and even received a visit from a popular mascot.

The Calderbridge Primary School pupils in Coltness welcomed Ziggy, the lovable character from Road Safety Scotland.

The visit was a prize the school won from participating in a national competition as part of the Go Safe with Ziggy campaign which equips children and parents with knowledge and attitudes to ensure the children's safety on the roads.

Gillian Allan, teacher at Calderbridge Primary School, said: "We love using the Ziggy road safety resources in class and everyone was so excited to welcome Ziggy to our school.

"It was a really fun way to reinforce the road safety messages we’ve been teaching and remind the children how to stay safe on the roads.

"We’ll enjoy reading the Ziggy stories together even more after today’s special visit."

A storytelling session was held, involving Ziggy's thrilling Earth-based road safety adventures.

Debbie Nicol, assistant director at Road Safety Scotland, said: "It is important that children are immersed in positive road safety attitudes from a young age, both in the classroom and at home.

"We know that early experiences shape children’s future behaviour, reiterating the importance of practising and teaching safe road habits.

"Ziggy is a fun character with an important message and visits like these help create lasting memories about road safety."
