MICHAEL OWEN has claimed Celtic have the quality to beat most sides in the Champions League after their performance against Real Madrid.

The pundit was in attendance at Parkhead as Ange Postecoglou's side fell to a 3-0 loss.

And despite the scoreline, Owen was impressed with Celtic as they piled pressure on the Champions League champions in a dominant first-half.

And he reckons Postecoglou's side proved they can compete in the competition and even beat "most sides" in the tournament.

Speaking on BT Sport, Owen said: "In the end it was exhibition stuff from Modric, but from Real Madrid as a whole.

"But, saying that, I think Celtic can walk off that pitch with their heads held high.

"I've seen something there which would suggest to me that they could beat most sides in this competition.

"Okay, Real Madrid are a different kettle of fish, they're the reigning champions.

"That's a very, very good Celtic team and they were inches off going 1-0 ahead.

"It might have been a different story after that."
