ONE of the rarest pieces of Rangers memorabilia ever will be put to auction in Glasgow.
A match jersey from Rangers' historic 1972 European Cup triumph over Dynamo Moscow will headline an auction of rare sporting memorabilia next month.
Rangers victory against Moscow on May 24, 1972, was a truly historic moment in the club's history when they secured the trophy with a 3-2 win over the Soviet side in a packed Nou Camp stadium in Barcelona.
The shirt, which was worn by midfielder Alfie Conn, is the first jersey from the match to come to auction, making it one of the most important pieces of Rangers memorabilia to ever go under the hammer.
It went from Conn to the Louden Tavern in Glasgow, where it was on display for a number of years and is now offered from a private collection of Rangers match worn shirts.
Experts at McTear's estimate it could fetch between £15,000 and £20,000 when it appears in the More than a Game: Sporting Medals and Shirts Auction on Friday, October 14.
Commenting on the auction, James Bruce, McTear’s sporting specialist, said: "The Barca Bears have forged legendary status at Ibrox, with anything associated with their European run, and particularly the final itself, always attracting significant interest.
"A jersey from the Moscow game is a rare thing indeed, with this remarkable lot representing one of the most important pieces of Rangers memorabilia to ever come to auction."
