A tennis coach from Bearsden has nabbed a top accolade at the annual Tennis Scotland Awards.

Jordan Gray, a 43-year-old business owner, was named Development Coach of the Year for his achievements last year.

These include heading a coaching programme for all ages and stages at Thorn Park Tennis Club in Bearsden, developing a pathway for each age group while providing a fun and safe environment, and leading the U18 and U14 West of Scotland County training squads while playing in the 2023 Scottish Cup Final.

The ceremony was hosted by Rhona McLeod at the Stirling Court Hotel on March 29.

Mr Gray, a Roger Federer and Andy Murray fan, said: “I’m delighted to receive this award as so many coaches around Scotland are doing a fantastic job at clubs, other venues and universities.

“I’d like to thank my club, the members for putting up with me and my wife for allowing me to coach at all hours of the day.”

A total of 21 awards were handed out as the tennis and padel tennis community celebrated a year of success and growth for the sport.

Blane Dodds, chief executive at Tennis Scotland, said: “Congratulations to Jordan, who came up against tough competition but was a deserving winner in our Development Coach of the Year category at the Tennis Scotland Awards 2024.

“We want to offer our thanks to Jordan and all the individuals and organisations who work tirelessly to further the growth and development of tennis in Scotland.

“With an all-time high club membership, increasing participation and record entries at competitions, we have real momentum in Scottish tennis and, as we celebrate the many successes of 2023, we look forward to the rest of this year with huge confidence.

“Many of our award winners now go ahead to the LTA British Awards later this year and we wish them all the best of luck.”
