FORMER Doctor Who Sylvester McCoy is to find out if he has what it takes to live in India for a new reality TV series.
The Scots actor joins fellow stars such as Wayne Sleep, Miriam Margolyes and Jan Leeming in BBC2 three-part programme The Real Marigold Hotel later this month.
Set in Jaipur, the eight strong contingent’s exploits are loosely based on the Judi Dench movie The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
McCoy, who played the Time Lord for three years in the late 1980s and starred in one of The Hobbit films, is among the stars mucking in at an Indian private mansion as they set up home and work out how to staff, get around and spend their time.
He said: “I dined with kings, drank cocktails with maharajas, but best of all was dancing with puppeteers in the slums of Jaipur.”
Dunoon-born McCoy, 72, said his main role in the party had been to “raise a smile, and play the spoons”.
The other celebrities taking part after former darts player Bobby George, TV chef Rosemary Shrager and comedian Roy Walker.
