Coronation Street viewers were fuming after Eileen found out about evil Phelan’s scam – and chose not to turn him in.
Fans of the ITV soap had hoped that the unravelling of Phelan’s Calcutta flats scheme would lead to his murders being uncovered.
But they were disappointed – and angry – when Eileen (Sue Cleaver) decided not to report him.
Many viewers posted furious messages on social media, calling Eileen “gullible”, “stupid” and “a fool”.
“Oh Eileen you mug!!!” one dismayed person posted on Twitter.
Another viewer said: “Like an idiot, Eileen has fallen for it. Phelan could stand in the middle of the living room juggling Andy, Michael, Luke and Vinny’s heads, written a full confession all over all the walls, and Eileen would smile and say “Why is it only I see how wonderful you are?”
One person quipped: “One day in the distant future, people will be listening to the song “Come on, Eileen” and claim that it was written by frustrated Corrie fans whilst watching Eileen claim the gold prize for the world’s most ignorant human being. COME ON, EILEEN FOR CHRIST’S SAKE!!”
Many viewers said they were getting fed up with the Phelan (Connor McIntyre) plot, which has been running for months.
One bored viewer tweeted: “ANOTHER WASTED HOUR OF #corrie Will someone please tweet me when Phelan has gone so I will know when it is safe to watch again without the risk of going round the twist.”
“Consider me Pat Phelan’s newest victim. I’ve died of boredom waiting for this storyline to end,” said another.
Coronation Street continues on ITV.
