IT wasn't every day that the men of Colville's Ravenscraig Steelworkers sparked up cigars while on the job.
Although we have very little information about this photograph, we suspect the men - William Hyslop, Pat Campbell and George Douglas - had been given the nod by their bosses to light up for our photographer to mark setting a new production record.
After all, with the stink that Ravenscraig used to produce, who was going to notice the pong of three cigars?
David Colville & Sons, founded in Motherwell in 1871, was, by the time of the First World War, the largest steelworks in the UK. In 1967, Colville's was nationalised, and became part of British Steel.
We just hope the men didn't try to light-up from one of their furnaces; that would be a sure way to singe your fringe.
