IN recent years, a lot of time and effort has been put into making the banks of the river Clyde the jewel in Glasgow's crown.
Once the heart of the city's booming shipbuilding industry, it is now a showcase for new flats, entertainment venues, attractively-planted walkways and state-of-the-art bridges over a river that is cleaner than for many years.
But between the two eras, there was a time when the riverside was a sad, polluted and grimy eyesore.
Our picture today, taken in 1976, is a reminder of just what huge improvements have taken place.
