IT’S always an honour to be one in a million!
Miss Isobel Duke, from Partick, enjoyed her day out for free at the 1938 Empire Exhibition in Glasgow when, in May that year, she became the one millionth visitor to attend the show.
Exhibition manager Captain Graham showed her the main sights as the show took advantage of the opportunity to celebrate its own success.
Miss Duke looks dressed for the occasion, but then she would have felt out of place without a hat in that company, when having a hat was clearly essential for everyone from the driver to the boss.
And the men would never have attended such an occasion without a tie and polished shoes.
Miss Duke would have
had no idea what was in store when she put on her smart suit and left for the show that day, being unaware she was to be such an important visitor.
Still, it paid to be prepared.
You just never know when a photograph will be taken that could appear in a newspaper in almost 80 years’ time.
Sarah Smith, 4, from Kelvinside, helped put the finishing touches to the Art in the Square Exhibition, which took place in Glasgow’s George Square
