Memories: Flooding in Glasgow in 1954 and Massey’s provisions shops in 1951
Massey’s provisions shops were a Glasgow institution since the 1870s and were famed for the quality of their bacon and ham. Here, a shop assistant slices some for a customer at the Union Street store in 1951.
The news is filled every winter recently with stories of flooding, and it was no different back in 1954, when it was Glasgow’s turn. The picture shows pumps getting to work in Nether Auldhouse after a drenching.
