Memories: Women queue for Lewis's opening and Glasgow bar The Halt Lounge in 1980s
This queue formed before opening time outside Lewis’s department store in Argyle Street in October 1953. These shoppers seem keen not to miss out – having read about what was on offer in the Evening Times.
These men about town could have been heading for the Halt, which in 1980 was hit by a local government pay strike that caused Glasgow’s licensing board chaos. The licence application by the bar’s new owner was held up.
