The organisers of Glasgow's Pride Mardi Gla are encouraging city businesses to put a rainbow display on their windows - and they could win a top prize.

The Rainbow Challenge competition has been launched ahead of the event on July 15. The contest is encouraging shops, offices and workplaces to display the Pride flag - and the best wins a £500 night out.

Suggestions for a display include decorating a window in the style of a pride flag, making your desk resemble a rainbow or redesigning an office water cooler.

In order to take part, you need to take a picture of your original design and tag Pride in the photo after you post it on social media.

Fraser Baxter, from Glasgow Pride’s organising committee, said: “This is a really fun way to take part in Pride and helps to raise visibility across Glasgow and west central Scotland of the rainbow flag and the ongoing fight for LGBT+ equality.

“So get decorating and remember no matter how big or small your display, you will be making a real difference by standing with your LGBT+ staff and customers. Just remember to tag us in so we can pick a winner. We are MardiGla on Facebook, Insta and Twitter.”

Last year, over 21,000 marchers attended Glasgow’s Pride March which made it the largest one in Scottish history.

Every event at Glasgow Pride is free to take part in and it is the biggest free Pride in the UK after the one in London.

Strathclyde University will be hosting a Pride Hub on the same date following the Pride March through the city centre.

The event will have free entertainment, music and a community fair all held between 1pm and 8pm.

Scottish singer and songwriter Horse McDonald will be the headline act and entertain the LGBT+ community and supporters alongside musician Mary Kiani.
