A major supermarket is bringing back a free offer to customers in Glasgow by popular demand.

Lidl previously offered a free bike service to shoppers at their Victoria Road store earlier this month.

Following on from its success, the offer is being brought back, this time to 20 shops across the city and beyond.

It comes as Glasgow prepares to host the UCI Cycling World Championships, of which Lidl is the Official Fresh Food Partner.

Glasgow Times:

Dr Bike mechanics will be in marquees at store car parks to offer locals a chance to take their shopping up a gear with a free bicycle health check-up.

They will receive a bike safety check-up including necessary basic fixes and maintenance advice.

A&E repairs will include replacing worn brake pads, brake and gear cables, as well as tightening headsets and adjusting gears.

For any more serious issues, customers will be given a ‘Dr’s Note’ explaining what their bike needs.

Ross Millar, Lidl’s regional director for Scotland, said: “It is great to be back servicing customers’ bikes with a Dr Bike check-up during the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships.

"After seeing hundreds of customers use the service before, we couldn’t wait to get the mechanics back out to stores again to help cycling enthusiasts in the World Champs’ host city get race ready while they do their weekly shop!

“Lidl’s partnership with the UCI World Championships helps us work together on the shared values of promoting healthier lifestyles through exercise and making affordable, healthy food accessible to everyone.”

Trudy Lindblade, CEO of the event, added: “As we get ready to embrace the power of the bike at the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships, we are thrilled to see Lidl bring back their free bike health check initiative.

"This is a fantastic way to ensure your bike is safe to ride while you also enjoy the fun of the Championships.”
