PREPARATIONS are under way for the UCI Cycling World Championships 2023. 

The inaugural event will take place from Thursday, August 3 until Sunday, August 13, and will see around 8000 elite and amateur cyclists come together to compete in venues and locations across Glasgow.

We previously reported a number of road closures will be in place from 12.01am on Friday, August 4 until 11.59pm on Tuesday, August 8 and then again from 12.01am on Saturday, August 12 until 11.59pm on Sunday, August 13.

Glasgow Times:

Parking restrictions will come into force from Monday, July 31 until Sunday, August 13. 

Events will also be held at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Glasgow BMX Centre, Glasgow Green and Emirates Arena. 

First Bus has confirmed a number of its services will be affected by the road closures while ScotRail has added additional services to help those travelling to and from the events.

Pictures taken today across the city centre show preparations taking place with barriers being up along roads including Sauchiehall Street. 

Work is also ongoing on George Square where there will be an official fan zone. 

Following the first edition of the UCI Cycling World Championships, the event will be held every four years, the year preceding the Summer Olympic Games.
