An Edinburgh Festival comedian needed hospital treatment after a female audience member punched him during a show.

Police are investigating after Colin Higgins required stitches when the drunk female hit him in the face.

Colin, 40, from Carluke, Lanarkshire, was performing his Edinburgh Fringe show on Friday night.

Police are investigating the attack.

Colin said: ''The behaviour was shocking but I'm OK. Laughing it off!

''There was blood everywhere. But the show must go on.''

Colin, who has appeared on TV and radio, was performing his Painspotting show at Leith Depot.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 4.30pm on Friday, August 4, to a report of an assault at a premises on Leith Walk in Edinburgh.''
