A CITY centre beer garden and street food venue has announced it will close this weekend.

Festival Village Merchant City, located on Candleriggs, revealed on social media they will be having "one last big blowout" from Friday with live music all weekend.

The Facebook post read: "Festival Village is closing.

"We will be having one last big blowout celebration from September 1 - 3.

"Book yourselves in to try out some crackin' drink specials and get the chance to win some brilliant prizes.

"It's your last chance to visit Festival Village: Merchant City so get yourselves booked in while you can."

The venue, which has space for 300 people, first opened at the space in July 2020 to support the hospitality industry by providing an outdoor space during the pandemic.

We previously reported in March 2022 that it had been given permission by Glasgow City Council to operate for another two years.

The announcement of the closure comes after a run of Edinburgh's Festival Village, which sits atop the Waverly Market shopping mall on Princes Street, was cut short by the City of Edinburgh Council.

Our sister title The Herald reported council planners said that pop-ups during the city's summer festival programme "can be acceptable for short periods" but councillors agreed to refuse permission until October.
