The Sisters restaurant in Kelvingrove has announced it will close at the end of the year.

The popular west-end restaurant confirmed the shock closure on Facebook - after the retirement of boss Jacqueline O’Donnell.

Anyone with vouchers is urged to redeem them between now and it's closing date - Saturday December 21.

Up until then, however, The Sisters will be serving up their usual favourites every Wednesday-Sunday.

Confirming the closure, Jacqueline wrote: "After 21 years in the flourishing restaurant industry in Glasgow - which is no mean feat - I’ve decided to head for early retirement.

"The Sisters has become something of an institution over the years, chiefly because of our fabulous Scottish produce and great hospitality.

"It would be neither of those without the excellent attention from the team who make The Sisters as special as it is.

"Their hard work and dedication has made working over these past 21 years such good fun, for which I am immensely grateful. When the customers, produce and the general foodie scene is as vibrant as it is in Glasgow it really does make for a great working week!"

She added: "We don’t know how long it will take to sell this wee corner of the now infamous Finnieston, so we’ll be here to welcome and of course feed you as normal for the time being.

"There will be more updates in the coming days but for now the main message we want to convey is one of thanks and gratitude to all of our wonderful customers for their unwavering support throughout the years.

"It has been a pleasure serving and getting to know you all - and hopefully we’ll get a chance to welcome you again in the coming weeks before we say goodbye".
