CHRISTMAS fans have snapped up over 100,000 early bird tickets to a new festive event in just a couple of hours despite a technical hitch on their website this morning.

Itison confirmed that their Elfingrove event has exceeded sales expectations with punters buying gold-dust briefs in their thousands. They went on sale at 7.30 am this morning and more than 100,000 tickets had been sold by 10.30 am.

Glasgow Times:

The brains behind the new festive event, Glasgow-based entrepreneur Oli Norman said: "The reaction’s on par with some of the biggest stadium gigs in the UK which is just phenomenal for a brand new, home grown event.

“We’ve been planning for huge levels of extra traffic to itison and put extra measures in place to support this however we’re aware some folk experienced issues getting their tickets this morning and would like to apologise – we know how frustrating it can be. Most visitors were able to purchase without issue.

“As locals ourselves, we’re immensely proud and excited to be taking over the city’s most loved museum for what’s going to be a completely magical Christmas experience.

“Our elves have been working round the clock and the site is now stable with tickets still available.”

It comes after we revealed that £1 million was being invested into the event by Mr Norman.

A world-class production team of over 60 people has been hired to create what is described as a 'spell-binding night-time tour of the museum culminating in a show capturing the true magic of Christmas using state of the art technology, sound, and lighting'.

The event will run at the West End venue from December 5 to 23 and itison initially hoped that they would attract 100,000 visitors. But first day sales have already exceeded that figure.
