A Glasgow pizzeria has been named as one of the country’s favourite takeaway eateries in a poll of Deliveroo customers.

Pizza Punks triumphed in the ‘Best Italian’ category at the delivery firm’s inaugural Restaurant Awards in London after receiving more votes than a host of other eateries from across the UK.

The restaurant - situated on St Vincent Street – invites customers to choose from over 50 unlimited toppings to cover their handcrafted San Francisco sourdough and has been a popular haunt for locals over the past few years.

Pizza Punks hit the headlines in May for rolling out a unique ‘Buckfast Pizza’ in honour of a day celebrating the tonic wine brand.

As well as a golden Deliveroo trophy, the pizzeria’s owners will receive support from the firm to help them grow their business and will also be part of an upcoming marketing campaign worth up to £30,000 to showcase the very best of British restaurants.

Pizza Punks’ Louise McCabe said: “It’s fantastic to win this award and means that much more as it was voted for by the public.”

“There were so many great restaurants up for awards, and it’s really encouraging to see such a range of talented chefs and varied cuisines on show.”

Aberdeen-based FreshMex was the only other Scottish winner in the poll, with trophies handed out in 20 categories.

Deliveroo founder and CEO Will Shu added: “I’m really proud that Deliveroo works with over 20,000 of the UK’s best local restaurants, bringing amazing meals straight to people’s front doors.”

“We understand the hard work, dedication, incredible skill and creativity that goes into making a restaurant successful and so it is an honour for us to be celebrating Britain’s best loved restaurants.”
