The Scottish Ambulance Service will receive almost £5million to help end the single-crewing of ambulances, the Health Secretary announced.

Nicola Sturgeon ordered an end to the routine staffing of ambulances with just one person in June.

She told MSPs the Scottish Ambulance Service would receive an extra £4.7m to help them achieve this.

While Ms Sturgeon said the number of cases where ambulances were sent out with one crew member on board was falling, she added that ending the practice in all but exceptional circumstances would require "significant additional investment".

She said: "I am delighted to announce the Scottish Government will provide an additional £4.7m to the Scottish Ambulance Service over this and the next two years."
