THERE was a vast array of precious metal on display when the Scottish Motor Show roared into the Kelvin Hall in 1965.

The event - the highlight of the year for Scots car enthusiasts - gave drivers the chance to cast an eye over new models and, even if they couldn't afford to buy one, to slip behind the wheel of a posh Rover, Jaguar or Bentley. Ah well, you can always dream!

Looking at the picture, it's sad to note how many once-famous British makes and models have disappeared from our roads, with Morris, Riley and Wolseley all going to the great breaker's yard in the sky.
