A SNAKE on the loose at a Glasgow cinema sparked a mass exodus.

Film-goers were evacuated from the city centre cinema after a snake sneaked out of a customer's bag.

It sparked panic among dozens of movie fans at CineWorld in Renfrew Street. Sssoo ... WHAT WAS SNAKE WATCHING? IT didn't like Yes Man ... so what film did it fancy? What about... One teenager even felt the three-foot reptile slide along his leg.

Screen 9 was packed when the real-life drama unfolded during a showing of the new Jim Carey movie Yes Man.

And it was a case which would have been suited to one of the actor's previous roles as Ace Ventura Pet Detective.

Bosses immediately evacuated Screen 9 on Saturday afternoon and customers were given a refund.

And it wasn't just at the nearby Pavilion panto where there was cries of "boo, hiss" but also from those who missed the end of the Carey blockbuster.

Bill Love, from Moss-park, who had taken his daughter to the 3.30pm show, said: "We were in Cinema 9 when a cry went out that a snake was loose.

"I found myself lifting my feet off the floor a bit as I wondered if it might have made its way down to the front.

"Five minutes later a few people began walking out and a girl came down from the back seats and swore she'd seen it.

"It was most unsettling. The manager came in and told us we would have to leave the hall.

"The cinema was evacuated and we got our money back."

Sources said a customer brought the snake into the cinema. It escaped from a box and was scooped up by its owner, who then left the building.

Luke Roberts, marketing communications manager of CineWorld Cinemas, said: "CineWorld Renfrew Street evacuated the cinema due to reports of a customer having a snake in his possession.

"Once the cinema was evacuated no animal or snake was found in the building and normal trading was resumed."
