HAMILTON boss Billy Reid today made a case for the defence after his Accies side dumped Queen of the South 1-0 to confirm their position as early-season pacesetters.
An 18th-minute Richard Offiong strike was enough to hand Hamilton victory over the Doonhamers and maintain their 100% record after three league games.
And Reid was left purring as his well-organised side underlined just how hard they have become to beat.
He said: "We have played three matches and conceded only one goal and that tells you how solid we have become at the back.
"When you keep clean sheets then you give yourself a platform. I felt we did that against Queen of the South in a game that was not a classic."
Reid added: "But, at the other end, we have Richard Offiong having scored four goals in four games and when you have a striker in that kind of form it makes things a lot easier. It's early yet, but we just have to try and keep things going."
Hamilton visit Morton on Saturday, with Jim McInally's side also unbeaten after a 0-0 draw against Stirling Albion at Forthbank.
McInally said: "Considering our poor record at Stirling and the level of our injury problems, this was a decent point.
"My main grumble is that we didn't create enough but, for a promoted club, seven points from our opening three games is a really satisfying start."
But Macca admitted that his search for additional firepower continues.
He said: "We are short on options up front, and I have been talking to one or two players with a view to adding to our numbers. Hopefully we can get something done this week."
Stirling boss Allan Moore felt his side's performance was flawless.
He said: "We didn't make any mistakes and that is why we stayed goal-less.
"Maybe I am a bit disappointed in that we have dropped two points, but I would have taken a draw against Morton at the beginning of the season."
Elsewhere, St Johnstone and Dundee both finished with 10 men in a 1-1 draw at McDiarmid Park.
Dunfermline salvaged their first point of the season at Livingston with a last-minute Owen Morrison equaliser to draw 1-1.
