GLASGOW'S bid to have golf included in the 2014 Commonwealth Games has been ruled out of bounds.
The city's bid team wanted to add the sport to the list of events to boost their chances of winning the race to host the Games.
But Commonwealth officials have rejected a request from the International Golf Federation.
Games officials feared the competition would be mediocre if big-name Commonwealth golfers snubbed the event.
First Minister Jack McConnell had supported the move and backers claimed that adding golf would give the Games a distinctive Scottish flavour.
