JEAN-JOEL PERRIER-DOUMBE has revealed he wants to win an extended contract with Celtic.

The Cameroon internationalist has joined Gordon Strachan's side on a short-term contract until the end of the season.

But the SPL champions have promised to review the situation if Perrier-Doumbe proves his worth... and that's exactly what the full-back intends to do.

He has been training with his new team-mates since last week and could come into contention for a debut against Livingston in the Scottish Cup this weekend.

And the defender says he can't wait to get started in order to show he is good enough to sign a longer contract with the runaway SPL leaders. He said: "I expect the games here to mostly be a real physical combat.

"And I know that the football in this country is very competitive and fast.

"But I have come here to play a part in the future successes of the club and to get the chance to come here and potentially play a part in a league victory would also be fantastic.

"I am looking forward to any part that I can play in that.

"Of course, if the next few months go well for me I will want to stay.

"I have spoken to the players here, some of whom have joined Celtic quite recently, and they all seem to have fitted in well at the club and are happy here.

"So I obviously have a good feeling about the club and want to do my best here."

Perrier-Doumbe admits he has enjoyed his first week out on the training ground at Barrowfield.

He said: "I am getting on well with the other players and I am giving 100% in my training sessions.

"Celtic is a massive football club and that shows in the quality of players that are currently here.

"And this is a great opportunity for me to go and show my worth."

If he didn't realise before, the defender didn't take long to realise just how big a club Celtic are - even back in France, where he was born.

He said: "I know that Celtic have a world-wide fan base and when I came over here, a lot of people in France got in touch with me and congratulated me on the move.

"There are also a lot of Celtic supporters in France.

"The possibility of playing in these upcoming Champions League matches is a real opportunity for me to realise how important the games are for the club.

"If Celtic are in the last 16 of the Champions League it is because they deserve it."
