MORTON winger Jim McAlister today admitted speculation linking him with a move to Romanian champions Unirea Urziceni had made his life tough against Dumbarton.

McAlister had a trial with the team coached by former Chelsea star Dan Petrescu last week and is waiting to see if they want to make his move there a permanent one.

However, he still had a hand in his side's goal, scored by Allan Jenkins, in the 1-0 ALBA Challenge Cup triumph over the Sons at the Strathclyde Homes Stadium yesterday.

He said: "Last week was pretty tough. The phone was going pretty much constantly as well. I've never experienced anything like that before.

"I went out there yesterday and put in a good performance and we got the job done. Now we are in the next round of the cup."

Meanwhile, Albion Rovers boss Paul Martin admitted he was surprised his team beat Ayr United at Somerset Park. After goals from Bobby Barr and David McFarlane in the last 11 minutes, Martin said: "It's a shock. People may think we were brilliant, but we weren't."

Elsewhere, Queen's Park lost 2-0 to Annan in their first round tie away from home with Steven Reilly red-carded.
