TONY MOWBRAY today ruled Celtic out of the race to sign James McCarthy.
Wolves and Wigan have both offered £2million for the Hamilton teenager, who was the subject of a £600,000 offer from the Parkhead club at the end of the season.
Reports today claimed the Hoops were back in for the player. But when Mowbray was asked today if the player was still on the club's radar, he answered: "I would suggest not with the numbers being bandied about."
Mowbray - who has added Landry N'Guemo and Marc-Antoine Fortune to his squad in the past week and is running the rule over trialist Amaduo Alessane - did not rule out the possibility of signing more players before the Champions League deadline next week.
McCarthy, meanwhile, met with Wolves manager Mick McCarthy and chief executive Jez Moxey at Molineux last night and is set for talks with Wigan later today.
Birmingham and Everton are also believed to have registered an interest.
