TRADING standards and planning officers are warning residents not to get taken in by doorstep callers offering to cut down trees.
They've been alerted by residents across East Renfrewshire to callers offering to cut trees down.
Steve Fox, the council's trading standards officer, said: "There's no reason to feel pressured into hiring someone to do work for you. And remember, you have a seven-day cooling off period for purchases made at the door."
And council planning officer Matt Greenen said: "Some areas are covered by tree preservation orders or are conservation areas.
"If you are in one of these areas you must apply to the council before you do any treeworks."
