BAFTA Scotland bosses have been slammed after nominating only one actress for the Best Female award - ensuring a walkover win for Sophia Myles.

As revealed in later editions of last night's Evening Times, the Bafta Scotland Awards were announced in Glasgow by GMTV presenter Lorraine Kelly.

But there was outrage after only one of the two actresses entered for Best Female was nominated.

Hallam Foe star Sophia Myles is now guaranteed to take the trophy at the awards bash at City Halls on November 18.

The only other entrant was Angela Coates, who appeared in MySpace movie My Life As A Bus Stop, which won acclaim at this year's Edinburgh Film Festival.

The film's maker, Wilma Finnigan from Coatbridge, said it was "a massive slap in the face for Angela".

She branded Bafta's decision as "grossly unfair" and said it was more like an Eastern European election from 30 years ago than a competition.

Alison Forsyth, director of Bafta Scotland, defended the decision.

She said: "To get a Bafta nomination is considered a kitemark of excellence, and we felt the other actress's performance did not reach that."
