A GLASGOW girl is helping some of the country's biggest stars look good for their close-ups.

Mailin Haddow, 28, swapped marketing for make-up five years ago and has so far primed and preened Natasha Bedingfield, Paolo Nutini and James McAvoy.

The former Hutchesons' Grammar pupil was also responsible for Scotland's most glamorous catwalk faces as the official make-up artist for the models at the Scottish Fashion Awards at Stirling Castle.

Her top role at the most glitzy event in the Scottish style calendar last month is just the latest coup for Mailin who studied marketing at Glasgow Caledonian University before working as a marketing manager for a corporate hospitality company. But she always felt that something was missing.

She said: "Since my teenage years I had always been keen on all things beauty but I had never really thought about working in the industry. I started working in an office after university but I thought this isn't what I want to be doing'.

"I looked into make-up courses in London and managed to get the last place on one which was starting two weeks later - and I handed my notice in!"

After graduating in fashion and photographic make-up at the Glauca Rossi School of Make-up Mailin returned to Scotland. She spent time building up her portfolio while working at The Virgin Cosmetic Company in Buchanan Galleries before she launched her firm MV make-up.

Mailin, who lives in Pollokshields, is now in demand for shoots for top women's magazines including She and Red and has worked for a number of film companies.

She said: "I've done premieres including James McAvoy's launch for the Last King of Scotland.

"I worked with Natasha Bedingfield and with Paolo Nutini in Glasgow."

Mailin also works on weddings and does make-up lessons.

She said: "I get such a buzz out of doing this and I have no regrets."
