Kris Commons today admitted he has only himself to blame for missing Sunday's SPL finale.

The Hoops hero was dismissed at Tynecastle last night after being handed a second yellow card by ref Craig Thomson for leaving the field of play to celebrate Celtic's third and final goal after initially having been booked for a dive in the 76th minute.

The yellow card double whammy means Commons will sit out Helicopter Sunday when Neil Lennon's side will attempt to claim the SPL title by beating Motherwell at Parkhead and hoping Rangers slip up at Kilmarnock.

Crestfallen Commons admitted: "I'd forgotten I was already booked and when I saw the red card it came as a shock.

"I had hoped there may be some loophole, but I understand I am out of the Motherwell game and it is just so disappointing.

"It will be a point of debate why I did that and I recognise that.

"I am gutted because that was a fantastic performance. It was one of our best and under a lot of pressure."

Despite the gut- wrenching end to his season, Commons took time out to stand four square behind gaffer Lennon, who was attacked by a Hearts fan.

The Scotland international said: "It shows the character of Neil that he was far more interested in congratulating us after our victory last night than he was about himself. That is testament to the gaffer."
