Kilmarnock manager Kenny Shiels wants Belgian internationalist defender Mark De Man to replace Motherwell bound Tim Clancy.

The 28-year-old De Man, who has five caps for his country, is a free agent having left Germinal Beerschot, and arrived last night for talks as Clancy headed to Fir Park.

Although Clancy was an ever present in the Rugby Park side last season, Shiels has used the Irishman sparingly since taking charge, and says the move is best for both parties.

"Tim hasn't been able to get much first-team football at the moment, and as I'm trying to get another defender in, we decided that it would be good for him to go to Motherwell," said the Killie boss.

"His departure means I can balance the squad a little more, because it frees up some of the budget and should, hopefully, allow me to bring in another centre back.

"His contract is up at the end of the season so it should almost certainly be a permanent move, but I'm still waiting on confirmation."

Ryan O'Leary, David Silva and Paul Heffernan will all sit out Killie's trip to Inverness tomorrow.

Shiels added: "Inverness have been very unlucky so far.

"They've conceded a number of last-minute goals, so we will need to be wary against them."
