THE Salvation Army is going into battle to try to attract more customers to its charity shops in and around Glasgow by launching a loyalty card scheme.

Regular shoppers will be rewarded by being allowed to buy items for free if they have made previous purchases or have donated goods.

The new 're:ward' card was launched across the UK and is available at the Army's eight charity shops in the Glasgow area.

It has two city outlets along Dumbarton Road, Partick, and another in Springburn Shopping Centre as well as others in Graham Street, Airdrie; Clyde View Shopping Centre, Blantyre; Main Street, Coatbridge and Brandon Arcade, Motherwell, all North Lanarkshire, and in the Olympia Mall, East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire.

Shoppers who spend at least £5 will have their card stamped.

Ten stamps will quality them for £5 worth of free items within one of the shops.

Others who use the Army's re:bag – a reusable black, white and red bag that can be bought in-store for 99p – to fill with donated items will also have their card stamped on the reverse side.

Each stamp is worth £2 and can be redeemed immediately.

The stamp replaces £2 vouchers which in the past had been used to reward customers.

The new loyalty cards are available from today from the Army's network of charity shops.
