ANOTHER big-name supermarket is set to open in Glasgow's East End next week.
The new Morrisons, on Barrack Street, in the Gallowgate area, opens on Wednesday – two months after rival supermarket chain Tesco arrived at The Forge.
As reported in the Evening Times, the new Morrisons has created about 280 jobs and should deliver a multi-million-pound regeneration boost to the area.
Tesco, which opened in November, created 350 jobs.
The new Morrisons will focus on fresh produce with an in-store butcher, bakery and fishmonger.
The store – which will use icebeds and water-misting technology to keep its vegetables fresh – will stock more than 600 lines of fruit and vegetables.
Store general manager Brian Forbes, said: "This is a store that moves us away from the average, and creates a new model for selling fresh food.
"We are using low-level display tables to open up sightlines into the store, highlighting the freshness of our fruit and veg and introducing a feeling of space."
Signs will guide customers around the Fresh Market area and there will be a delicatessen counter as well as flower shop and cafe.
The butcher will offer more than 140 cuts of fresh meat prepared in-store and there will be up to 40 types of bread baked on the premises.
Mr Forbes added: "From the minute customers walk in, they'll see fantastic fresh food.
"The team has been working really hard to prepare. We can't wait to welcome shoppers through our doors."
