A GLASGOW schoolgirl who wrote a letter to Sir Elton John is set to appear as the opening act for his only Scottish tour date this summer.

Singer Tallia Storm, 13, will perform at the Falkirk Stadium on Saturday June 10 to thousands of Elton fans, before the singer performs classic hits such as Crocodile Rock, Your Song, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Tiny Dancer.

Her addition to the bill has come due to a chance meeting last Christmas with Elton's civil partner, David Furnish, while she was on holiday in Hawaii with her family.

After seeing him at breakfast in her hotel, the Glasgow High School student approached him, asking that he pass on a note and a copy of a CD containing recordings of her songs.

The next day, Sir Elton himself phoned, inviting the teen star to perform with him in Falkirk.

Tallia, who lives in Killearn, Stirlingshire, has been carving out a singing career for the past two years, performing contemporary R&B and pop.

She has so far had about 120,000 views of her videos on her YouTube channel, and more than 200,000 people have logged on to her Myspace page to listen to her music.

She said: "It was one of the most surreal experiences in my life when Sir Elton called my mobile.

"I really didn't know what to say at first but he was so excited about my music and said he thought my signature was incredible.

"He was just so nice, warm and totally down to earth.

"We spoke a few times and then he called my mum that night to explain what he had in mind.

"I don't actually think I will take it all in until I am standing on his stage at Falkirk, someone will have to pinch me for sure."

Tallia's mother, founder of the Scottish Fashion Awards, Tessa Hartmann, is equally excited for her daughter's big performance.

Mrs Hartmann said: "I had literally said, 'oh that's David Furnish over there having breakfast' and the next thing you know, she bounced up to her room to get her CD and scribble a note.

"She came back down and said, 'mum, maybe if I leave this with that man he might give it to Elton?'

"So I laughed and said, 'why not love, you never know', not thinking for one second what would happen.

"When Elton called the mobile the next day I almost had a heart attack.

"It's lovely for Tallia because she made her own luck. We are just so proud of her, not just for her singing, but for her audacious but naive manner in even wanting to approach David Furnish having breakfast."

The teen starlet is now busy in rehearsals ahead of her big night.

She said: "I'm working really hard and rehearsing a lot to give it my all.

"That's the least I can do for being given the opportunity of a lifetime from one of my musical heroes!"

Mrs Hartmann said: "She seems quite calm about it, she's incredibly focused for a teenager.

"I on the other hand am a nervous wreck!"
