THE advertising watchdog has rejected complaints by the Scottish Government about promoting sunbeds as a source of vitamin D.
A leaflet for Indigo Sun tanning centres said: "Exposure to UV light (whether from sunlight or sunbeds) is the most important source of vitamin D for people in the UK."
The Scottish Government said this contradicted World Health Organisation advice.
Indigo Sun said it was generally accepted that people in the UK get 90% of their vitamin D from exposure to UV light.
The Advertising Standards Authority agreed it was widely accepted that UV light was the primary source of vitamin D for UK citizens.
It said: "The claim was a general one regarding the importance of UV as a source of vitamin D."
