SUBWAY passengers can from today shoogle round the network at the touch of a button.

Strathclyde Partnership for Transport has launched iShoogle – billed as Britain's most advanced transport app.

It provides the 13 million people who use the network each year with real-time transport updates, location information, special offers and more.

The "Shoogle Guide" allows users to check into any of the Subway's 15 stations remotely and receive local information, including comprehensive lists of nearby restaurants, bars and tourist attractions – and how to get to them – with just a few taps of a screen.

The app has been developed to complement SPT's £288 million Subway modernisation, which will see all the stations upgraded and driverless trains introduced.

SPT chairman George Redmond said: "SPT has led the way in harnessing social media and launching the iShoogle app is the next logical step for us. Effective use of such technology is key to offering customers the best possible service and, working closely with the team at Origins Partners, we have created a truly unique example of mobile media.

"We are confident iShoogle will enhance the experience of using the Subway as the most efficient way to travel around Glasgow."

Origin Partners' technical director Jerry Staple said: "We have invested time to find out what commuters most want and need on a transport app. That has helped deliver a service that outstrips most of the world's biggest subways.

"iShoogle is much more than a mobile information kiosk. It is about using smart, user-focused information and entertainment to create customer communities and repeat visits."

The app, which is free to download for iPhone and Android smartphones, was launched to mark the opening of Social Media Week 2012.

It is a global think tank focusing on trends in social and mobile technologies in cities around the world, including Berlin, Hong Kong and Los Angeles. Glasgow will host a range of events by industry experts.
