GLASGOW'S 'Wall Street on the Clyde' is making a global splash.

It is now ranked among the world's top financial centres ahead of cities such as Bruss-els, Madrid, Helsinki, Milan and Dublin.

The latest Global Financial Centres Index measured the perform-ances of 77 centres and placed Glasgow's Inter-national Financial Serv-ices District (IFSD) at 39, a rise of two places.

It's the first time Scotland's biggest city has made it into the Top 40. An IFSD spokesman said: "This encouraging ranking for Glasgow underlines the success of our IFSD.

"We have a highly-skilled and highly-educated workforce which, combined with an environment suppor-tive of business, is attractive to investors."

James Dornan, MSP for Glasgow Cathcart, said: "This is brilliant news. It shows this city has a global reputation for financial services excellence."

The long established financial centre in Edinburgh was 37th but Glasgow's success comes just months after what's known as "Wall Street on the Clyde" had its 10th birthday.

The public and private sector collabor-ation has so far generated 15,000 jobs and more than £1billion of investment.
