Irn-Bru maker AG Barr has been given until the end of the month to decide on its £1.3billion merger with soft drinks group Britvic.
The deadline for the companies to table a firm bid or end talks was due to expire today, but has been extended to October 31.
The firms revealed last month they were in talks on a merger, which would transfer 37% of the enlarged group to shareholders of AG Barr.
Barr's last week reported an 8% fall in half-year profit.
