CELTIC has come top of the league...

for its speciality pies.

The east end club and Pars Foods were presented with a Gold Award for the Speciality Chicken Balti pie, which is sold at the team's grounds.

Named the best football pie in Scotland, the pastry beat competition from 47 other football club pies from Scottish clubs at all levels.

David Strothers of Celtic FC said: "Our fans love to enjoy a pie at a match and we are delighted to hear that ours is the best in the land."

Run by the Scotch Pie Club, the award recognises the popularity of pies as part of the match-day experience for football fans.

This year's competition drew a record number of entries, with more than 100 butchers and bakers entering 500 pies, pasties, sausage rolls, bridies and savouries.

Brian Sarafilovic of Pars Food said: "It's a huge honour."
