GLASGOW actor Daniel Kerr was among the nation's top young talent honoured at the glitzy Scottish Variety Awards.

Just days after winning his Bafta New Talent Awards, 12-year-old Daniel, who played a young Paul Ferris in the film The Wee Man, became one of the youngest winners of the awards.

The youngster wowed the judges and scooped the prize for Best New Scottish Actor at the ceremony.

Singing sensation Nina Nesbitt was named the Breakthrough Artist of the Year, while Scottish comedy queen Karen Dunbar won the award for Outstanding Scottish Achievement. The event, hosted by Capital FM's breakfast show duo Des Clarke and Jennie Cook, honoured the nation's stars of the future.

A host of celebrities turned out for the bash, which is backed by the Evening Times, at the Crowne Plaza hotel, Glasgow. Guests were also treated to an impressive performance from Evening Times' Glasgow Star Turn Winner Elissa Crorken and singer Nina.

Louise Cameron MSYP landed the Evening Times' sponsored award Best Up-And-Coming Scottish Politician.

Launched in 2008, the awards, which help children's charities, were the idea of KJM Events managing director Keira MacDougall and television presenter and musician Laura Marks.

Ms Marks said: "We are sure that all the nominees for 2013 have bright and successful futures ahead."
