HAMILTON Academical Football Club got more than they bargained for when they hosted the Final of British Fire Services Cup.
The Strathclyde branch of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service defeated their Central Division colleagues, but their dressing room celebrations were boisterous and the spray- ing of champagne set of fire alarms at New Douglas Park.
Three fire engines sped to the football ground only to be told on arrival what had happened, leaving the top brass that were attending the game suitably red-faced.
The winning team were quickly brought back down to earth as Strathclyde's Chief Fire Office Brian Sweeney reprimanded them.
Hamilton Accies secretary Scott Struthers said: "I don't think anyone could really believe what was happening."
