ONE of Glasgow's oldest family bakers is to close with the loss of more than 100 jobs.

As reported in yesterday's Evening Times, Miss Cranston's Tearooms – the firm which owns 13 Bradfords Bakers outlets – has called in liquidators.

The firm has blamed the closure on increasing costs and "adverse trading conditions".

A spokeswoman said: "After almost 90 years, it is with great sadness that the retail branches of Bradfords have now closed and a liquidator, Grainger Corporate has been appointed as of July 12."

Bradfords had previously survived a threat of closure in 2011.

It was founded by Hugh Bradford and his sons and is now run by his granddaughter-in-law Helen and great-granddaughter Claire.

GLASGOW toy shop workers fear for their jobs at the collapsed chain Modelzone after administrators announced plans to start shutting stores.

Deloitte, which was appointed to handle the administration last month, is drawing up a closure programme for its 47 stores.

Closing-down sales will be launched across the stores, with shops set to shut over the coming weeks.

The company employs around 355 people and employs 14 people at stores at St Enoch Centre in the city centre, and Silverburn on the south side.

A statement from administrators said "no final decisions on individual store closures has been taken" but a consultation process with employees was under way.

Eleven staff at the retailer's head office in West Sussex, were made redundant yesterday.

Richard Hawes, joint administrator at Deloitte, said: "Despite our continued efforts, we have been unable to identify a buyer for the retail business.

"We would like to thank the company's employees for their support and professionalism during this time.

"We continue to talk with potential buyers for Amerang Limited, the wholesale business.

"The situation at Modelzone does not affect the negotiations with respect to Amerang."

Administrators said Modelzone gift vouchers would continue to be honoured, but only towards 50% of the purchase price.
