SOME of the world's top ballet dancers were put through their paces at a prestigious competition in Glasgow.

The Genée International Ballet Competition reached its climax yesterday at the Theatre Royal with male and female dancers competing in the final.

Dancers were judged on a mixture of set variations including a classical repertoire and choreography of their own choice or design.

The competition is presented by the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) in association with Scottish Ballet and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Prima ballerina Darcey Bussell CBE was among those on the judging panel.

Following the event, Royal Academy of Dance teachers will run free classes and workshops throughout Scotland as part of Get Scotland Dancing.

The full programme will be announced in November and classes will be available throughout January 2014.
