PLANS for the final stages of a £30million project to transform part of the North East of Glasgow will be showcased in the community.

Home Scotland has unveiled the plans for the final four stages of the regeneration of Glasgow's East Balornock estate as the project reaches halfway.

Already 81 modern energy efficient homes have been built for those who live in the area as part of phases one and two of the project. Phase three, which will increase the number of homes to 127, is under way.

In total there are seven phases which, when complete will see almost 300 new properties replace the outdated houses and flats currently on site.

Plans for the development, one of the largest housing regeneration projects in the city, are to go on display at BERA (Balornock East Residents Association) Community Hall on Thursday, October 24 when the residents association will also outline separate plans for the redevelopment of the hall and retail units.

Stuart Dixon, Home Scotland's head of development, urged local people to share their opinion of the plans.

He said: "Work on the first three phases of regeneration has progressed really well and the families who live in these new homes are delighted with them. They've told us they enjoy living in modern homes which have been designed to be energy efficient and to suit their specific housing needs.

"We're keen to get on with the next phases of regeneration and to outline our plans to the people of East Balornock. We want to hear what they think and to work with them before we submit planning applications.

"We're building these homes for the people of the area so it's important that as many people as possible let us know what they think and would like to see."

Phases one to three have seen the areas around Ferness Oval, Ferness Road, Brodie Road, Auldearn Road and Standburn Road transformed.

Phases four to seven will see a further 163 homes built in Auchinairn Road, Broomton Road, Nairnside Road, Northgate Road and Ferness Road.

The homes will be a mixture of two, three and four bedroom houses, bungalows and cottage flats.

A planning application for phase four is likely to be submitted in November with work due to start late in 2014.

The majority of the homes will be available for social rent. Funding for the regeneration has come from Home Scotland, the Scottish Government and Glasgow City Council.

Stuart added: "Community involvement is at the heart of this project."

The plans will go on show at BERA Community Hall, 42 Broomton Road on Thursday, October 24 between 1.30pm and 7pm.
